Your First Visit to a Self-Service Laundromat: A Step-by-Step Guide

  • By Laundromat

Thinking about bringing your duvets, heavy blankets, or simply a huge pile of laundry collected over the week to a self-service Laundromat, but hesitating because you’re not sure exactly how it works? This guide is for you.

The idea of “city laundry” is a daily routine for millions of people. It’s modern, extremely fast, and saves you the hassle of washing at home. Still, your first visit may come with a few questions: Where do I put the detergent? How do I pay? How long will it take?

Let’s start at the beginning:

What to bring from home (and what NOT to bring)

What NOT to bring:

Detergent and fabric softener: Our professional washing machines have an automatic dosing system. Everything is included, from detergent to fabric softener, with no hidden costs. The system injects exactly the right amount of professional products at exactly the right moment. This means your clothes are protected from the white residue often left behind when too much detergent is used at home.

What you MUST bring:

  • The clothes, duvets, or textiles you want to wash (sorted by color beforehand).
  • Your phone (to pay via the app), a bank card, or cash.

How does the Laundromat work?

Once you arrive at our location, the whole process (washing and drying) will take you less than an hour. Here’s what to do:

1. Choose the right machine for your load

We have washing machines of different capacities to suit your needs. If you need to wash a bulky duvet, a winter jacket, or bedding for the whole household, head straight to one of our large-capacity machines (up to 20 kg). Using a large machine protects your home appliance and ensures a deep, professional clean.

2. Load your clothes and select a program

Put your laundry in the drum, leaving some space so the water and detergent can circulate freely. Close the door and select the right temperature on the machine’s panel according to the care labels on your clothes (cold, warm, or hot water).

3. Go to the payment terminal or open the app (this is where you save!)

You don’t pay at each machine separately, but at an easy-to-use central terminal or directly from your phone.

Our tip: Enjoy a lifetime 10% discount with the Girbau Sapphire Laundry Pay app (available on the App Store and Google Play) or the Laundromat customer card! All app users and cardholders automatically receive this permanent discount.

The app is completely free to use, and if you prefer a physical card (which you can buy at the terminal), the first top-up is 50 PLN, and the full amount can be spent on our services.

4. Relax for 30–45 minutes

Machine started? Perfect! Unlike washing at home, which can tie up your bathroom for the whole day, our cycles are short and highly efficient. While you wait, you can:

  • Connect to our free Wi-Fi and catch up on your emails.
  • Read a book in our comfortable relaxation area.
  • Do some quick shopping at nearby shopping centers.
  • Grab a coffee.

5. Move your clothes to the dryer

Use the baskets provided to transfer your laundry (but remember they are for use on the premises only).

A trick you’ll love: In our large professional dryers, your clothes have plenty of room to tumble freely. If you take them out and fold them while they’re still warm, most of the creases will disappear, so you can forget about ironing!

Why choose a local self-service Laundromat over washing at home?

If you’re still wondering why millions of people are switching to modern Laundromats, here’s a quick summary of the benefits:

  • Time savings: Wash and dry 20 kg of laundry in less than an hour by using several machines at once. At home, a load that size would take you all day.
  • No damp or mold at home: Especially in the colder months, drying laundry indoors raises humidity. Our dryers solve this problem in 15–30 minutes.
  • Maximum hygiene: We guarantee the highest standards. Our machines are automatically disinfected, and for your safety, all locations are covered by video surveillance.
  • ECO-nomical: Protect the environment. Industrial machines optimize water and energy use compared to running 3–4 separate cycles at home.

At Laundromat, we’ve turned a household chore into a relaxing, fast, and convenient experience.
